The vessel was attacked by two German aircraft with bombs and machine guns
The Croxton foundered in position 53°20N / 02°40E where the crew abandoned to a small boat
The next day at 9.00 a.m. after twenty four hours in open seas and having rowed sixty miles they sighted a drifter near North Hammond Knoll Buoy and were picked up at 9.45 a.m. by HMD Citron at about 2.00 p.m., and later landed at Lowestoft
